Confederate Memorial Day differs from state to state.

According to the History Channel, Alabama celebrates the holiday on the fourth Monday in April; Georgia on April 26, North and South Carolina on May 10; Louisiana and Tennessee on June 3; Texas on Jan. 19; and in Virginia on the last Monday of May.

In Mississippi, the date has been moved from April 25 to June 3 to the current date.

Most of the dates are set around Civil War battles that were meaningful to the South or Southern generals, Neff said. June 3, for example, is the birthday of Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy. ...
